Steve's Tape Measure Tips, Tricks and Games
Here are some tips to help you in measuring your
cabinets for pull out shelves
and really just some good information to have when measuring
anything. We also threw in some games you can do with a tape
measure, party favorites!
The number one tip
Use the case!
The number one tip for measuring and
inside space like the inside wall to wall width is to use the
cabinet case. Most quality tape measures list a dimension on the
side of the case. This dimension is the size of the case from the
back of the case to where the tape measure is read
It is really common to see someone
measure an inside space by placing the end of the tape against one
wall, running the tape to the other side and then bend it to read
the width. This works fine for a rough guestimate but it is not
accurate enough for a final measurement especially when measuring
for your custom pull out shelves. At Shelves That Slide we offer the
shelf widths in 1/16" increments so accuracy on the size matters.

Measuring Tip number two
Real zero!
When you look at a tape measure you
might notice the tang (the metal piece at the end of the tape) is a
little loose. This is not a defect or a problem, it is done on
purpose. Upon careful examination you may notice that the tang moves
the same amount as it is thick. This is done on purpose so that you
get an accurate measurement regardless of whether you are measuring
and inside measurement or an outside one
